Holiday Gift Ideas!

My holiday shopping list is full of people who are fairly hard to buy for. From my father in law who has just about every tool on the planet, to my husband, who has just as much, to the kids, who you want to get them something really good, but not really loud :) Luckily, here at Paul's ACE Hardware, we have all kinds of cool gift ideas that they are sure to love.

You can never go wrong with anything Craftsman® and we carry a full line of Craftsman® tools and accessories. There are some fantastic rebates (40-50% back) this month on the Cordless Auto-Hammer (sku 2137115), Cordless Compact Multi-Tool (very cool tool by the way pictured to the right - sku 2137099) and a Cordless Right Angle Impact Driver (sku 2302610).

If hand tools are more what they are looking for, again, there are some awesome rebates (40-60% back) on a Craftsman® 104pc Mechanic's Tool Set (pictured on the left - sku 2136984) and a Cordless Rechargeable Work light (sku 3302502).

If you're needing an easy hostess gift or have a wine enthusiast on your list, we have a few ideas there. (I wouldn't mind any of these if anyone is reading this who wants to get them for me... just sayin)  You can get me, eh-hem, I mean them, an Automatic Wine Opener (shown here on the right - sku 6209274) or a Wine Aerator (sku 6209910). Another great idea are some Scented Flameless Candles (sku 6209845); a 3-pack of 4", 5" and 6" vanilla scented candles that can be set on a timer to come on at the same time each day. All reasonably priced and make great gifts for me... Jeepers, I keep doing that...

Then for the kids, we have the ever popular Thunder Tumbler Remote Control Car (sku 9214792). This thing spins, tricks and flashes its lights all while doing gravity defying flips. What could be better than that? Something quieter maybe? Ok, for the quieter outside toys we have the Classic Radio Flyer® Tricycle and Wagon (skus 8315061 & 8314510). Every kid needs a Radio Flyer® wagon.

I hope this helps you with some great gift ideas, I know in writing it I have my list both for my family and me :) From my family to yours, we wish you a very safe, very happy Holiday Season!

Where did October go!?

Man, October was a BUSY month!

Thanks to our vendors!
We entertained all of our Commercial Customers with BBQs in our Scottsdale, Fountain Hills and Tempe locations. Thanks to all of you who came out. We fed hundreds of people, learned lots from our vendors, handed out lots of prizes and replaced a few hats. Thanks again to all who attended and we hope you had a great time.

with a much more stylish
Paul’s Ace Hardware hat.

for the Scottsdale BBQ - hahah

We also started our move to 1800 N. Scottsdale Road.  We are now operating our corporate offices from our new location.  We would love for you to stop by and say “HI”.

We went from this...

to this...

to all settled in.

We were very resourceful while waiting
for our new blinds to come in :)

We are continuing to get the new retail store at 1800 N. Scottsdale put together so we will be ready for business in January.  Keep checking here for more updates.  Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Still making progress

There's color on the walls!!! Our new corporate offices are really taking shape over there. As you can see in the picture here, the ceiling grid is in and the lights are installed - not quite on yet, but at least installed! (If you couldn't tell by the blank circuit breaker box I'm pointing at) The a/c unit should be on the roof (thank goodness!) and the flooring should be installed in the next few days. Yippeee!!!

We are still planning on moving in at the end of next week, October 6-7th-ish. Our awesome General Contractor, GP West, is saying it should be done, so we still have the movers scheduled :)

But look, there's more to do! A LOT more to do. We have another building over there that is still being worked on, and a large parking lot and lumber yard to create. The new home of our Scottsdale and Thomas store. They have made some fantastic progress so far, taking down walls and putting new ones up. It's been really fun to watch it all come together.
If you have any feedback on our new location, or new products or services you'd like to see, let us know! We want to hear from you!

It's getting closer and closer

Scottsdale Store Manager John Van has been hard at work going over the new store layout plan for our move to 1800 N. Scottsdale Rd. to make sure that we have all of our product in just the right place. He knows what he's doing too! He was involved in the planning and set up of our Gilbert store in 2006, so this is all old hat to him. We couldn't have a more experienced manager to handle this move than John. He has worked for Paul's for the better part of 16 years and has done pretty much every job there is to do for us here, from making screens to Store Manager. John, you rock. Thank you for all of your hard work, with more to come :) If you haven't met John, you need to, so come in to our Scottsdale and Thomas location and say hi.

Speaking of product and where it's going to go at our new digs, the picture here on the right is a view from the front of the new store looking due west. (The building there on the right will be our new corporate offices and service department) See that tower all the way in the back there? That's how far our land goes back to :) So - we are going to use all of that, of course with a roomy parking lot, but we will also have a lot of room back there to stock a larger selection of building materials. WOOt WOOt!!

I just had to post this picture on the left here. I am absolutely in love with these rafters in the retail part of our new location. They are so pretty! We are going to try to keep them natural like they are in this picture and put up white insulation, although the silver backed insulation looks pretty cool here doesn't it?

Well, we are getting closer and closer as the days go by. We are still scheduled to move our corporate offices over in October. We have received the first comments from the City of Scottsdale to work on our final permits to update the exterior of the building and site. So while it won't be forgotten, this will be coming down... soon :)

Decisions, Decisions...

From what color to paint inside and out to where all of our product is going to go - we have a TON of decisions to make for our new building at 1800 N. Scottsdale Rd. - but we are having so much fun doing it! Here I am on the right checking out some color ideas for the warehouse door. Julie already has them picked out for the face of the building. Here's an idea of what it is going to look like. What do you think? :)

There have been lots of things going on over there while we have been packing and purging our current corporate offices. They have already put up the metal studs for our corporate offices and technology room.

Here is most of our corporate staff posing with the 'studs' hahaha!

The contractors have also started taking down the dividing walls that were segmenting the old Brueners furniture store to open it up for our nice, huge salesfloor. We are going to have a ton of room.

Along with color choices and who gets which office, there are a few other things we have been considering for our new location. We are currently right next door to Einsteins Bagels, and we are going to miss them terribly.... but what if we had a gourmet coffee and pastry bar in our store? Do you want to run it!!?? or know anyone who does?

We are also considering becoming a certified Stihl dealer, any feedback on that? Can you think of any other line of product we don't stock that you would like to see?

We want to hear from you! Send us an email or comment to this post.

Change

Change is always exciting, we think so anyways :) And watching this building at 1800 N. Scottsdale take shape is very cool. It has been vacant for some time and we have driven by time and again thinking, "That would be a really cool place to move the Scottsdale and Thomas store to. It's still on Scottsdale Road, right next to the Post Office... it's perfect!" And yes it is. Totally perfect.

This isn't the first time we have watched and waited anxiously for a perfect new store location to transform, either from the ground up or remodel like what we are watching now at 1800 North. In fact, watching this has made me quite nostalgic. So I went and dug up some old pictures to share. Hope you enjoy :)

First location ever.
Paul purchased an existing Scottsdale Hardware in April of 1956
on the NorthWest corner of Scottsdale and Thomas Roads.

Second location ever. It may look a little familiar.
It's currently the Tire Pros on Scottsdale Road.

The old Post Office on 4th Street...

became our third location in Scottsdale - I sure miss that building!

Of course from the Old Post Office on 4th Street, we moved to where we are currently at the SouthEast corner of Scottsdale and Thomas Roads, back to our roots. Now, time for more change.

1800 N. Scottsdale Rd.

1800 N. Scottsdale Rd.
Imagine this, a little bit of a facelift and a big Paul's ACE Hardware sign on the side! That's right! Paul's ACE Hardware's Scottsdale and Thomas location is going to have a new address. We are thrilled and beside ourselves excited for this change. Our new address will be 1800 N. Scottsdale Rd, which is just north of McDowell on the west side of the street smack dab in between the Post Office and LA Fitness (another reason I'm personally super excited, although I can't say the gym is too far away anymore hahah!) For you Scottsdale old-timers, it used to be the old Breuners Furniture Store that has been sitting empty for a few years or so. We've already started on the remodel and are targeting January to move on over. Wish us luck! We've started taking some pics and will post more along the way to keep you updated on the progress. Let us know what you think!

This is looking at the front of the store, which is actually the back of the building in relation to Scottsdale Rd. Our new corporate offices will be there on the left and the new retail is on the right. Exciting isn't it!?

Doin' some DEMO!

And more DEMO...

And more demo...
Can't wait to start to see it come to life!

Well, the cool "1800" street sign is now gone, (we were going to have to replace it with a cool "Paul's ACE Hardware" sign anyways). But I have to say, with Scottsdale's new beautification project and our remodel of a cool building, the area of Scottsdale and McDowell, specifically just north and on the west side of the street, is going to be cooler than it ever has been!
